Nelson Fonseca

Chief Executive Officer

Nelson Fonseca is a highly successful business executive and investor with more than 25 years of leadership experience in IT infrastructure operations, sales, business development, telecommunications, and government contracting.

Fonseca serves as Chief Executive Officer for Cyxtera, the third largest publicly traded global retail colocation and interconnection services provider. Fonseca served as Cyxtera’s COO prior to being named CEO in November 2019. He played a critical role in launch of the company following a $2.8-billion transaction involving leading international private equity firm BC Partners and Medina Capital, a private equity firm that focuses on investing in growth stage companies in the IT infrastructure, cybersecurity and data analytics markets.

Since October 2012, Fonseca has served as a Partner of Medina Capital where, among his other responsibilities, he has focused on providing strategic advice and counsel to Medina Capital portfolio companies in the areas of operations, strategy, mergers and acquisitions, and international business.

Fonseca served in positions of increasing seniority at Terremark from 2001 through 2012, most recently as President. In that role he was responsible for managing Terremark's data center, managed hosting, cloud computing and cybersecurity business that included 3,500 employees, over $1.5 billion in revenue, and operations in 19 countries. Fonseca was an instrumental part of the executive leadership team that successfully grew Terremark into the leading global provider of managed IT infrastructure services for Fortune 500 enterprises and federal government agencies. The company was publicly traded company on NASDAQ until April of 2011 when Terremark was acquired by Verizon for an enterprise value of $2 billion.

Before joining Terremark, Fonseca built and enhanced critical business relationships for Telcordia, formerly Bell Communications Research, focused on wireless intelligent network services and the proliferation of Network Access Points, such as the NAP of the Americas in Miami. He began his professional career as an engineer and innovator in the wireless network division at Nortel Networks, where he supported key customer pursuits to privatize government-owned wireless network providers, and the licensing of digital wireless spectrum across Latin America.

Fonseca received his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Barry University and his master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Miami.
