Enterprise Bare Metal, Colocation in Business

The recently published Gartner report, Hype Cycle for Infrastructure Strategies, 2021, examines the 30 most-hyped innovations in infrastructure strategy through the lens of what value enterprises can derive from each innovation, its level of adoption, and the anticipated rate of future growth.

According to Gartner “Bare Metal as a Service (BMaaS), net-zero data centers and consumption-based sourcing represent both a shift and an awareness of responsibility in the way organizations consume and deliver compute infrastructure."

For enterprises looking for an alternative to public cloud environments, BMaaS serves up the perfect mix of speed, scalability and security.

As Gartner explains: "BMaaS can run workloads without restrictions based on hypervisor or OS compatibility, or performance concerns owing to other client workloads. This results in faster and more agile “physical” infrastructure deployment, efficiency in meeting elasticity and scalability demands, and broad geographic presence. BMaaS is also often selected over public cloud infrastructure to conform to legacy software licensing requirements based on permanent deploying onto fixed physical hosts (e.g., Oracle)."

At Cyxtera, we’ve known the value that bare metal provides for quite some time. Available since 2018, Cyxtera Enterprise Bare Metal meets a broad range of workload needs and a variety of configurations with varying number of cores, quantity of RAM, and type and number of storage drives. Companies receive the security, control and performance of dedicated colocation infrastructure in an on-demand model that's perfect for seamlessly extending your existing colo environment or rapid expansion into new markets without the burden of capital expenditures, lengthy implementation cycles, depreciating assets, or adding to local staff.

Other benefits include:

  • Infrastructure options from leading enterprise brands
  • Seamless extensibility to/from colocation environments
  • Access to ecosystem of 140 network service providers
  • One-click connectivity to ecosystem of third-party services and platform
